Japanese rope bondage at BOUND - the last of 2013

Go bind thou up yon dangling apricocks - Shakespeare, Richard II

A visitor to BOUND said it reminded him of a battle re-enactment society. Today in Waterbeach, outside Cambridge, I stumble across a battle re-enactment society. They turn out to be American.

This is the last BOUND of the year at the Flying Dutchman in Camberwell. Subjects: members of the audience, Nina Russ and Jenna, Wykd Dave and Clover, Ben and Aemilia, Fred Hatt and Miss Bones.

More Japanese rope bondage: BOUND at the Flying Dutchman in Camberwell

A documentary film crew is in tonight. RDF Television are making a series on counterculture for National Geographic.

I find myself on a sofa uttering inanities to presenter Darren McMullen.

What is Japanese rope bondage? 'Aerial tango,' says Bruce Esinem to the camera.

Body origami.

But is it porn or art or erotic?

Yes. No. Shrug.

Edith Templeton, from her novel Gordon (1966):

During his absence I had not been unhappy. Being invited to other people's houses had given me a feeling of superiority, as I compared their insipidly pleasant state to my own. There was a barrier between them and me, invisible but impassable like the invisible bars in modern zoos, where the tropical animals are confined within their ground by a space of heated air.

At the same time, I knew that they in turn would have been uncomprehending if they had known that my contentment came from a man who was able to say, "I shall hold you for ever, because I  shall always find new ways of torturing  you," and that my own particular paradise of the green fitted carpet, the blond machine-carved furniture, and the pressed-glass vases was paradise only because I did not dwell there of my own free will but was held in bondage there.

Performers: Amy Morgan and Raine Rai; Wykd Dave and Clover; Nawakiri Shin, Nancy Wang and Yang; Monsieur P, Mademoiselle O and Herdoktor Napalm.

BOUND - more Japanese rope bondage in London

Being an artist's model is like bondage without the physical restraints. A bit. Your safe word is CRAMP.

Tonight I'm at BOUND at the Flying Dutchman in Camberwell for another session of Japanese rope bondage in performance.

A member of the audience is trussed in a relaxed, East-Enders-watching pose on the sofa. I feel there should be a standard lamp with a fringed shade. Maybe Twiglets. He scratches his nose with his knee.

Subjects: Docvale and Tyka, Mo Saru and Bee, Miumi-U and Gorgone, members of the audience.
